Question: Do you require strict HTTPS (full certificate validation) for all APIs, and can you share exact endpoints/auth and rate limits? On ESP8266 this decides if we use BearSSL with pinned fingerprints vs minimal CA bundle, and how we size chunked transfers/JSON filters to fit RAM. Suggestion: Implement a lightweight DataProvider layer per source (URL, fields, interval, units) stored in LittleFS and editable via your web UI. Use HTTP streaming + ArduinoJson filters to extract only needed keys, with a staggered scheduler and cached last values (timestamped) to smooth updates. Add a display shim that unifies SSD1306 128x64 and SH1106 132x64 (column offset/page mapping) and uses region-based partial redraw for buttery tickers; charts use fixed-point scaling and a tiny circular buffer. Include retry/backoff, NTP sync, and offline fallback so the OLED stays responsive during API hiccups.
