Microcontroller based motor drive for controlling speed of permanent magnet dc motor -- 2

design a micro-controller based motor drive for controlling the speed of a permanent magnet DC motor.

In this design, you will be designing a chopper circuit based motor drive that uses either an IGBT or MOSFET, for control of a dc permanent magnet motor for variable speed operation in one direction only. The specifications are as follows:

1. Motor: Type: dc permanent magnet motor.

Voltage rating: 40 Volts dc, Current rating: 10 A

2. External DC Power Supply (to supply the motor power):

60V, 20A variable dc supply is externally provided.

3. External isolated low voltage dc supply:

An isolated low voltage dc supply for the gate drive circuit. However, the supply

voltage could varies from 16 V to 17 V.

5. Control design

A microcontroller controls the motor. The microcontroller design is not required here as it would have to be stand alone i.e. not in kit format.

A PI speed controller should be used. Values can be assumed. Only flow charts and pseudo code needs to be given in report. Clarity on how reading is actually taken and processed needs to be given i.e. don’t just say speed as input. This part need not be simulated.
