I have two non-commercial pergolas already installed and mounted on a newly built one-story steel rooftop deck. Each unit sits installed on four factory aluminum inserts that are through-bolted to the deck; the pergola posts are anchored to those inserts with single 10" bolts at the base. The city will only sign off once a licensed engineer confirms the assemblies can resist local wind pressures and possible up-drafts at roof level. I can supply a full package of blueprints, photos, and existing engineering specifications for both the deck and the current pergola installation. What I need from you: AN ACTIVE STATE OF IL LICENSE • Complete wind-load analysis in accordance with the applicable building code (IBC / ASCE 7) and current building codes. • Recommendations for achieving compliance—additional bracing has already been flagged, but I welcome any other upgrades you deem necessary. • Detailed drawings and calculations covering connection points, hardware, and any reinforcement required. • Engineer’s stamp (state-appropriate) on the final calculations and drawings so I can submit them directly to the city. Acceptance will be based on the city’s approval of your stamped package, so please outline the codes you will work to and confirm you can provide the seal in your reply. THIS IS FOR A COMMERCIAL PROPERTY. FURTHER DOCUMENTATION CAN BE PROVIDED ON THE EXISTING STRUCTURE. DO NOT SUMBIT A QUOTE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LICENSE IN THE STATE OF IL, I WILL REQUEST YOUR LICENSE NUMBER UPON ANY SUBMISSION AND VALIDATE WITH THE STATE OF IL WEBSITE.

Hello, I am interested in your commercial rooftop pergola engineering project. I can review the existing drawings, specifications, and installation details, perform a wind-load analysis in accordance with the applicable IBC and ASCE 7 requirements, and evaluate the pergola-to-deck connection for rooftop wind uplift and lateral loads. If required, I will identify reinforcement measures, including additional bracing, connection upgrades, and hardware modifications, and provide supporting calculations and detailed drawings for permit submission. Please share the existing plans, engineering documents, and photos so I can review the scope and discuss the required deliverables and timeline. Thank you.

Hi there, I'm a licensed professional engineer. I understand you need an Illinois PE to perform a wind-load analysis and provide stamped calculations and drawings for two rooftop pergolas so the city can approve the installation. I have 10+ years of experience in structural engineering, including ASCE 7 wind design, rooftop structures, and connection evaluations. I've completed similar wind-load certifications and stamped retrofit packages for rooftop equipment and shade structures. Can you confirm which city in Illinois the project is located in so I can verify the applicable code edition? I can review your drawings, deck engineering, photos, and pergola specifications, provide any required reinforcement details, and deliver a sealed calculation package for permit submission. I look forward to working with you. Best Regards, Rick

Hi there, I'm a licensed professional engineer. Your project requires more than a standard calculation package since the structures are already installed and the city expects verification that the existing system can safely resist roof-level wind pressures and uplift. I have 18 years of experience in structural engineering, forensic evaluations, retrofit design, and code compliance. I've previously prepared stamped engineering packages for existing rooftop installations where modifications were needed before approval. I'll review your deck engineering, pergola specifications, shop drawings, photos, anchorage details, and existing conditions before determining whether additional bracing or hardware is necessary. If modifications are required, I'll provide practical reinforcement details that can be constructed without unnecessary changes. Are the pergolas manufactured systems with published engineering data? I look forward to working with you. Best Regards, William

Hi there, I'm a licensed professional engineer. I understand the city requires an Illinois PE stamp confirming that both pergolas comply with the applicable wind-loading requirements before the permit can be finalized. I have more than 12 years of experience in structural engineering, steel structures, rooftop installations, and building code compliance. I've worked on similar permit support projects involving existing commercial buildings and rooftop additions. My scope would include reviewing the structural capacity of the existing anchorage, evaluating wind uplift and lateral forces, checking the connection between the pergolas and steel deck framing, and preparing sealed calculations and construction details if reinforcement is needed. Can you provide the original permit drawings for the rooftop deck? I look forward to working with you. Best Regards, Ed

Hi there, I'm a licensed professional engineer. I understand you're seeking an Illinois-licensed engineer who can provide a complete engineering review rather than simply stamp existing documents. I have over 15 years of experience in structural engineering, commercial buildings, and wind-load design in accordance with IBC and ASCE 7. I've completed similar engineering reviews for rooftop canopies, pergolas, and mechanical equipment supports. I'll independently verify the existing installation, evaluate the base plates, bolts, aluminum inserts, and supporting deck, then prepare calculations, reinforcement recommendations, and stamped drawings suitable for city submission. My goal is to address review comments before they become delays. Has the city specified which edition of the IBC they are enforcing? I look forward to working with you. Best Regards, Laurence David

Hi there, I'm a licensed professional engineer. I understand you need engineering calculations and sealed drawings demonstrating that two rooftop pergolas can safely resist required wind loads and uplift forces for final city approval. I have over 16 years of experience in structural engineering, permit support, and commercial retrofit projects. I've recently completed wind-load evaluations for existing rooftop structures that required additional connection detailing before approval. I'll review all available structural documents, verify the load path from the pergolas through the aluminum inserts into the rooftop framing, identify any deficiencies, and prepare practical reinforcement details where necessary. The completed package will include calculations and drawings ready for permit submission. Do you have structural shop drawings for the pergolas? I look forward to working with you. Best Regards, Joseph

Hi there, I'm a licensed professional engineer. Your project involves evaluating existing rooftop pergolas rather than designing new ones, so careful review of the installed conditions is essential. I have over 14 years of experience in structural engineering, existing building evaluations, and wind-load analysis for commercial properties. I've prepared stamped retrofit packages for structures requiring engineering verification after installation. I'll compare the installed conditions with the available drawings, review all connection hardware and support framing, perform wind-load calculations using the applicable code, and provide recommendations if strengthening is required before issuing sealed documents. Are close-up photos of each connection and anchor location available? I look forward to working with you. Best Regards, Daniel

Hello there! Your project is exactly the type of engineering review that requires careful analysis, especially since it involves rooftop wind uplift on a commercial property and must satisfy the city's permit requirements. I am an active Illinois-licensed Professional Engineer and can provide my license information for verification upon request. The review will be performed in accordance with the applicable IBC and ASCE 7 wind load provisions, with particular attention to rooftop wind pressures, uplift forces, anchorage, connection detailing, and the interaction between the pergolas and the supporting steel rooftop deck. My plan: Review the provided structural drawings, photos, manufacturer data, and existing engineering documents. Perform wind load and uplift calculations per the applicable IBC and ASCE 7 requirements. Verify the anchorage, aluminum inserts, bolts, and supporting roof structure, identifying any deficiencies. Prepare sealed calculations and detailed reinforcement drawings, including any required bracing or hardware upgrades, for city submission. One critical aspect will be verifying that the existing rooftop deck can safely transfer the calculated uplift and lateral forces into the primary structure—not just confirming the pergola connections themselves. I'll clearly document any required improvements so the final package has the best chance of receiving city approval. Best regards, George
