Our web-based service includes a "Proofing" step before sending the advertisement to printers for fulfillment. Currently our interface displays a JPEG proof via the browser. Users can increase or decrease the JPEG size (zoom in/out) to see details better. This method requires the page to reload and the service to regenerate the JPEG every time the zoom in or out button is clicked. Depending on the Proof's file size, the refresh time can take 5 seconds or more to display. Also, it requires more resources from our servers to regenerate the JPEG.
We want to leverage Flash to give users instant feedback when zooming and put the processing on the client side instead of the web server. In addition, Flash will give us a better platform improving the user's experience in other areas. For example, Flash/Zoomify has a feature for "Full Screen" mode. Also Zoomify has a great "Comparison" mode for comparing previous revisions to the current proof.
From what we can see, Zoomify gives us the features we need. It just requires someone that knows AS 3 to implement. The key Zoomify features we require in this project are Zoom, Pan, Navigation Box, Hot Spots, Full Screen, and Comparison. Please review the Zoomify website for the Flash component's details ([url removed, login to view]).
