the supplier pdf is where this job actually lives, and it is worth setting expectations on it before we start. supplier catalogues almost never have clean tables underneath. a pdf holds text at coordinates, not rows, so extraction guesses at columns and gets it wrong in the same places every time: merged cells, a description that wraps onto a second line, and rows that run over a page break. the failure is silent, because the spreadsheet looks complete while one wrapped line has quietly become an extra product. so the real work is not the conversion, it is the pass that reconciles product counts and prices back against the source. second, and it matters more over time than any single import: one rule for identity. whether a product is matched by supplier code, your own sku or a name, decided once and applied always. without that, the same item arrives twice under two spellings and your master sheet slowly stops agreeing with your stock. i also keep a column recording which supplier file and page each row came from. it costs nothing while working and it is the only way to check anything later. how many suppliers, and do their pdfs follow the same layout each time?
