I am currently in the process of developing a Trading Card Game, and I am looking for an artist which I can work with to design fantasy style creatures and characters. I am currently looking for short term commissions (between 1 – 15 pieces); however, I would be interested in hiring artists for a longer term should my game really take off! If you are interested, please read the general requirements for the project, as well as more details about the project below.
- All pieces must be in a portrait orientation
- The dimensions must be 11.5 x 16.6 cm (width x height)
- The format must be either .jpg or .png (.png is preferable, but high resolution .jpg is fine)
- All final pieces must be delivered without an artist’s watermark
- For sets of characters, it is preferable for sketches for each to be drawn first
The Project – Spike Balls
This particular project will feature a group of creatures, known as “Spike Balls”. They are small, cute, and playful creatures, with a mischievous side, excelling at the use of trickery to defeat their enemies.
The Spike Balls are small creatures which resemble something between ancient Egyptian cats and breeds of foxes (fennec, marble, and cross foxes to name a few). Their main features are their twin tails, and their sharp quills which cover their bodies from head to toe (like a porcupine) and may curl up into a ball to ward of predators (hence the name, “spike balls”).
The body of the creatures (such as the tails, body structure) are fox like; however, features from cats (such as the shape of the eyes and ears) may be integrated from interesting species of cats (such as caracals, lynxes, etc) to create something interesting!
There will be 7 in total: 6 endued with an element (Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Light, Darkness) and 1 without (Non-elemental). Please keep this in mind when designing the creatures, as this will be the largest variation between them.
NOTE: With these characters, I would appreciate them having a similar style to the images I have attached, as this would increase the cuteness factor. However, feel free to proceed with what works best in your opinion!
If you are interested, then please submit either a quick sketch of one of the characters described above, or a link to artwork you have previously completed of a similar nature. This would be very helpful for me, as it will help me to determine how well your art style blends with the artwork I currently have (I can provide examples of the artwork I have, just send me a message). Also, if you have any questions, then please send me a message to discuss in further detail.
Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal, and I look forward to working with you!
