Modern Love Code Quilt

Background for project. One of the characteristics of a modern quilt is the use of negative space. I have spent a little more than a year collecting 37 different fabrics in a Mid Century Modern color pallet to use in this quilt. Each fabric corresponds to a letter, punctuation mark or space in Shakespeare’s sonnet 116. I will use the same fabric for all of the spaces, another fabric for all of them A’s, another fabric for all of the B’s, etc. The result will be a scrappy looking but modern, with a hidden code. No one except me, the recipients and the programmer will know the pattern is sonnet 116. This will be a wedding gift. Here is what I need a programmer for.
1. The goal is to put a random number spaces between words in the sonnet so that
2. Sonnet 116 is printed in a 35 cells by 40 cells grid. (1,400 cells in the grid. Sonnet 116 has something like 579 characters)
3. Each cell in the grid will represent either one letter, one punctuation mark, or one space.
4. The grid must be oriented so it is longer than it is wide. (Horizontal)rows are 35 cells wide. (Vertical) columns are 40 cells long. Portrait orientation in other words.
5. The words should look like they have been scattered over the grid. Example of a what a row might look like.

6. Words should not break across rows, but it is okay to break a line of the sonnet across rows. Do not begin each sonnet line on a new row. It is okay if a new line of the sonnet happens by chance to begin on a new row of the grid.
7. Words may or may not begin in the first cell of a row—that is, the first word in a new row may begin in the first cell or any where to the right of the first cell. The same is true for the last word in a row. It may or may not end in the last cell of a row—it may end anywhere to the left of the last cell in the row.
8. It is okay for words or letters to fall beneath each other from row to row. Example:

I would like to be able to print out the grid with the words, one letter per cell to use as my pattern. I want something I can look at. Like a piece of graph paper, with the letters and punctuation in the cells.
