In the spirit of International Women’s Day 2018, we are coordinating the teaching of local refugee women to ride bikes. We are a Not for profit organisation called Wheel Kiwi's and need a logo that fits our identity.
We hope that being able to ride bikes will allow women to be more independent, and increase their ability to engage with the wider New Zealand community. Equally it is a wonderful opportunity for other Kiwis to become more aware of and engaged with the refugee community. Although New Zealand is a wonderful place to live, there are many barriers for refugee women to truly becoming a part of their new community. One of these barriers is a lack of transport, or a means of travelling independently, so this is what we set out to change.
This is a fantastic opportunity to show the extraordinary role that ordinary women play around the world. It acknowledged the significant role that refugee women play in the process of resettling in New Zealand, and is an example of how as community driven project can achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at the grass-roots level
