I work in a homeless hostel with 16-21s. Their experiences are unique to themselves and yet have echoes that everyone can identify with. They do not want to be pitied or judged; they want people to see beyond the surface of bravado, defenciveness, shyness, anger and embarrassment. Their stories are shocking and heart-breaking but also full of humour and have a resonance with everyday life that brings them out of the darkened corner and allows them to be a worthwhile part of their generation.
I am looking for a fre-lance writer who would be prepared to spend some time getting to know a few of the young people, listening to their stories and wokring alongside them to produce an article about each which could be published in National homelessness and children's magazines. It will be hard and frustrating at times, but, in my experience, very rewarding. This is a charity based project and so payment could only cover costs, but if we can produce something good then there is the possibility of payment through publishing.
This probably doesn't sound like a great deal but hopefully someone out there will fancy giving it a go.
