Create an installer program to associate icons with file types on Windows XP through to Windows 10 (and 98 too if possible).
Do not associate the file types with any programs and do not remove any existing associations.
Allow the user to choose which associations to make when installing (provide a checkbox for each icon when installing).
This might be done using Inno Setup but I'm open to suggestions.
Windows 98 is not important I suppose, we can leave that out. Some users of these special files can only use Windows 98 but almost all are using XP onwards. Most are using windows 7, 8 or 10. Some are 32 bit some are 64 bit.
I have already attached the icons and the file extensions list to the project so you should view the attachments. Here are some examples:
Technics SD Card Backup file - sdb
Technics MIDI SD Sound file - mid
Technics Sequence file - sqt
So, the first extension is .sdb and the description in windows is "Technics SD Card Backup file"
The second extension is .mid and the description in windows is "Technics MIDI SD Sound file"
Most of my users will just accept the defaults. However, you can imagine that a more sophisticated user will not want his standard .mid icon to be changed, so that is why we give the option for him to 'untick' a box if he doesn't want the new icon.
The attached examples show the results exactly in windows. I have already commissioned a program that installs these icons and works with the actual files. That is how I am able to show you the actual example jpgs from screenshots on my own PC.
However, THIS project is ONLY to install the icons in a directory and then associate them with these file extensions, without adding or changing any program associations. So, for example, if the user double clicks a .mid file that has my icon, it will open in his usual midi program, not my program..
This project is a stepping stone to larger things. The developer who works with me will need to learn about these special files, I have a lot of info about them. You can read more about them on my website:
The purpose of making this very small installer is so that users can instantly recognise these types of Technics keyboard files in windows by looking at the icon. Very simple, nothing fancy. I've created an installer myself using inno setup but I don't have the skills to be absolutely certain that it will work smoothly for many different types of machines. Maybe inno setup is not the way to go?
There should also be an uninstaller that will set the PC back to its original state (remove the icons, restore any pre-existing icon associations).
Following this project I have several more projects that I want to be developed. All of them depend on these icons too. So the descriptions must always be exactly the same.
I will be redeveloping the program I mentioned earlier with someone new because the programmer I've been working with does it as a hobby, so he is not fast enough for me. I might be able to get the source files for the program but I am not certain yet.
I have several file manipulation programs that i want built and then I want to integrate a few programs into one larger program as time goes on. I will provide example programs that carry out similar functions and a lot of explanation along the way.
For this reason it is very important to me to work with a developer who is going to stick around, be very reliable and charge reasonable rates. I do not want someone who will disappear in a few months.
You must provide me with all source code. This is because I've been let down badly before (not by anyone from here) and if someone else needs to take over my projects I don't want them to start from scratch. I'm also sorry to say that I would prefer someone who has been on Freelancer for a while, not someone new. I have used Freelancer for a very long time even though I haven't posted many projects on this profile.
I will provide mockups and good briefings for any future developments.
Examples of future projects are:
Install files to a certain dedicated folder location on hard drive, within the Documents folder (or My Documents folder etc).
Move or copy groups of those files to floppy disks and rename them at the same time.
Read HEX info from the files to determine what to do with them, such as renaming them, moving them or changing HEX information within them..
Move or copy files from the dedicated folder location, rename and place on an SD Card whilst updating a specialised pre-existing database on the SD Card.
Check whether the files in the dedicated location are up to date (compared with files on my website). Maintain a database of descriptions of the files in the dedicated location so that users are informed of the contents of the files, so that they can choose where to move them and what names to give them.
To summarise. THIS Icon Installer is a very simple project, a starter to see how we get on. I'm looking for someone who will develop small applications with me but this project must stand alone and be ready to go quite quickly.
I've received some bids that are derogatory to other Freelancers. They might be correct but I'm not interested in politics or people who criticise other STRANGERS who are trying to make a living or make unsubstantiated accusations. And some bids obviously haven't read my proposal, so again I won't be interested in those.
Thanks for reading.

Hi, I have read description of your project. What I have understood about your project is a program that contains icon set from windows xp to windows 10. I can do this one.
