Carve out 'Minio Browser' module to create simple S3 Bucket file manager

Context:

We have a data logger that will upload files to a server (e.g. a local PC server, a dedicated server, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure or other). We aim to use the AWS S3 API/SDK to allow end users to manage the log files. We will not be hosting the platform for the end users - they will set it up themselves.

As part of our offering, we want to provide a user-friendly browser-based interface to end users. Here, we want to use the Minio Browser module as our basis:

The idea is to “carve out” the Minio browser module so that we can build on this. In particular, for users working directly with AWS we don’t want to ask them to run a Minio Server in between. In this scenario, the users simply use the “Minio Browser” module as the browser for their AWS S3 objects. However, for users that want to e.g. run their own simple dedicated PC server, our aim is that they run Minio Server.

We’ve previously attempted to get a freelancer to create this setup. However, he set up an intermediary nodejs server, which we want to avoid. We believe it should be possible to do a very light setup with just the ‘carved out’ Minio browser allowing users to view their data on AWS, a dedicated server etc.

In the ideal setup, we want to host the Minio Browser module on our [login to view URL] server as a public website. Here, users can enter their end-points (e.g. an s3 AWS end point or an IP address) and their accessKey and secret access key. With those 3 fields alone, they’ll be able to access their server and manage files - without any intermediary servers running.

Note that the module should be updated to purely use the AWS S3 SDK - not the Minio SDK. This is in order to avoid reliance on Minio for e.g. the case where we directly work with an AWS S3 server.

NOTE: This is just the first part of a long list of projects - we expect this part to be very light.

Milestones:

“Carve out” the Minio Browser module so that it can run on a generic web server with no dependencies on Minio Server. Via the browser we should then be able to use this module to connect to S3 buckets (regardless of whether this is Minio Server based, AWS based etc.)

The module must retain all core functionality (download, upload, create buckets etc.)

About the project and you:

We’re looking for a freelancer to help us on several projects branching out from this platform. As such we expect many more projects in the coming 1-2 years.

We need a freelancer who satisfies the below:

- Strong skills in javascript, react, html, css

- Experience working with cloud servers, incl. AWS

- Ideally experience with Minio Server / Minio Browser

- Excellent communication skills, touch base frequently and listen to feedback

- Robust coder - we’re looking for quality over speed. Code needs to be fully robust, without errors and well-documented.

- Finally, we want something that is as minimal, simple and clean as possible

If you believe this is a good fit, please contact us. We’re super nice to work with and hope for a good collaboration.

In your message to us, please briefly outline how you aim to approach this project. We'll use this as part of our evaluation.
