Implement [login to view URL] PDF annotation within the Canvas LMS -- 2

Implement the [login to view URL] PDF annotation capability into the Canvas LMS platform.

[login to view URL] creates software to enable the annotation of documents on the Web. One of the areas we are focused on bringing this capability is the classroom. We already have a large number of teachers using annotation to help bring blended learning into the classroom, but they are often stymied by their inability to host a PDF for annotation.

We’ve developed a prototype service to enable the hosting and annotation of PDFs, called [login to view URL]

DropThatPDF accomplishes the wrapped PDF through a library at [login to view URL] We will want to leverage that same repo in this solution.

Canvas already allows teachers to upload documents like PDFs that are then able to be offered to students as part of a syllabus. Currently those PDFs are rendered using a native Box PDF plugin that is based on the old Crocodocs codebase. As we understand it that PDF plugin does not use Box’s document store, but rather pulls the PDF from where it is stored inside Canvas.

We would like to modify the storage of PDFs within Canvas such that the links to those PDFs come with the [login to view URL] annotation client wrapped around them. We can’t do that currently with the Box renderer because it’s a closed blob of code that is opaque to us (though if you disagree, we’d be delighted to fund you to tackle that problem too).

Ideally, this code would be some sort of plugin either within the Canvas platform or as a more general LTI plugin if possible.
