We own a few GSM Gateways and we would like to be able to send AT commands directly to the GSM module. The only way to do that is using UART from the ARM11 Chip to GSM module. The embedded busybox includes microcom to which we have access. For this project, it requires some reverse engineering skills in Linux embedded system. It's a little more complicate because the embedded ARM communicates to GSM modules trough FGPA chip. So what we probably need first is to find and read the UART connection between FPGA and ARM chip. We already have some decompiled code in which there is communication between the main ARM chip and GSM Module trough FPGA. We can give you remote access directly to the device.

Hello, This is not something I can likely do within your stated budget. It is also a task best addressed by a local professional since access to the hardware is needed. If you can send it to Finland I can have a look at it with only the risk of postage costs in case I can't provide a satisfactory solution. If successful, the charge is of EUR 100 for a day's work, perhaps up to a week being needed... Kind regards, x3x7 p.s. Hello! I'm very interested this task and I'd like to complete it! I well know Linux and how embedded systems works. I know how to use a debugging utils such as strace and well know C for Linux. Also I worked with GSM modules and have some experience in programming for embedded systems. For example, I did several projects for ARM Cortex M0 and M3 microcontrollers and worked with Simcom SIM900 series of GSM modules. Also I know the smartphone firmware in part of communication TE with ME and well know AT commands. For example, I successfully cracked the operator SIM-lock in MTS Smart Race 4G phone (you can check this at 4pda forum). And about task. ARM11 has a limited number of UARTs, so in general I think there are 2 variants of interaction between MCU ARM11 and FPGA. In the first, the FPGA multiplexes signals from all GSM modules into one MCU UART using several logical channels. In the second, the MCU sends AT commands directly to GSM module via one UART port, and sends commands to FPGA to switch between modules via another port (which can be UART, GPIO, SPI or I2C). So if there is an SSH on the GSM gateway, I can upload some debugging utils and find out via which ports MCU use to communicate with the FPGA. This should be enough to understand how to transfer AT commands directly to GSM module. To get started, I'd like to see photos of gateway board, find out the model of GSM modules, and get SSH to gateway which is not in production. If you are interested, please contact!
