I need help connecting to a windows2000 host via SMBCLIENT on a raspberry pi
I can browse to the server using the file gui and typing smb://[login to view URL] , i get a password and user name prompt and navigate to the location drag and drop the file, it even created a link to the server in my home/pi/desktop.
but when i try doing it in the terminal:
root@raspberrypi: smbclient -L //[login to view URL] -U user&password
it returns the host file system
root@raspberrypi: smbclient //[login to view URL] -U user&password
i dont get the friendly smb:>
so i'm not logged in
my networking knowledge is not enough to trouble shoot this on my own, i need some help

I can get this sorted out for you tonight, it may be true that SMBClient no longer supports hosts as old as the one you're trying to connect to, or that you need to use some explicit option since SMB1.0 is insecure.
