I am looking for some advice from someone who has experience shipping items to China, and accepting payment from people in China somehow.
I see on the USPS site, regarding shipping to China:
"The importation of personal articles is limited to those intended for personal use and imported in reasonable quantities. The value of the items contained in each shipment must not exceed RMB (renminbi) 100 yuan and the total value of the shipment received annually by each family may not exceed RMB (renminbi) 800 yuan."
100 yuan is about 15 US dollars. Almost all of the items I imagine will be valued at more than $15.
It seems that that cannot be accurate, or I am not understanding something, maybe "personal articles" is the operative phrase here?
If this is accurate, and I could not send items worth more than $15 to my customers, that would be the end of it right there.
#1. So, I need this explained to me better.
#2. I need to know what I can do so I can accept payments from people in China, without skyhigh fees that would make this whole business not worth it in the first place - do I need to and can I set up a bank account in China, etc. I also may need help in setting whatever it is that I need up.
#3. I need as much information as possible about the ins and outs of shipping items to China, the best policies to have, and business dealings involving China and the Chinese people in general.
I looked into some of this stuff before, but it has been awhile and I forget.
So, bid for 5 hours of consultation. By then, if you know your stuff, I should know everything I need to know to either move forward, or abandon this idea.
