Summary:
Medical Writers work closely with clinical teams and clients to understand the nature of the scientific work that they will be covering. Medical Writers assess products and/or data using their medical expertise and develop further expertise in new areas as needed for their writing. Medical writers require an understanding of medical concepts and terminology, knowledge of relevant guidelines regarding the structure and contents of specific documents, and strong writing skills. Medical writers combine their knowledge of science and their research comprehension to present information at the appropriate level for the target audience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
• Performs scientific literature searches and collection of research articles from the appropriate databases (e.g. PubMed and other search engines)
• Performs literature and database searches, reviews articles to extract relevant information, and summarizes information from identified articles
• Demonstrates sound knowledge of the medical writing process, medical device regulations, and associated approval processes
• Applies medical concepts and terminology appropriately
• Proficient in English grammar/sentence structure
• Updates project-related tracking tools
• Ability to work with multiple teams to collect documents as required
• Maintains records for all assigned projects, including archiving
• Schedules and conducts document-related meetings, including the preparation of meeting agendas, key data points for discussion, and meeting minutes
• Works closely with the study team to ensure that content and results in clinical documents are accurate and complete as required
Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office® (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong working knowledge of technical and regulatory writing, understanding of medical terminology, and editorial skills
• Ability to quickly process and analyze technical information
• Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and other regulations, standards, and guidance related to medical devices
• Strong understanding of basic human anatomy and physiology
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty. An individual in the position of Medical Writer should have the following qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences/B. Pharm with minimum of 70% aggregate marks/7.5 CGPA
• Master’s Degree in Life Sciences/M. Pharm with minimum of 70% aggregate marks/7.5 CGPA
Education and/or Experience
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in medical-related field or life sciences (post-graduate degree preferred)
• Relevant medical writing experience in the pharmaceutical/medical device industry
• A strong understanding of regulatory clinical writing and scientific writing requirements and standards
• Broad experience in managing the medical writing responsibilities associated with multiple studies at various stages
• Experience in interacting with cross-functional study team members
