windows server 2008 setup

Question2 (30 marks)

This question is based around the material covered by Microsoft elearning

course 6713 and MOAC Lesson 3.

(Hint: you will need to access to a virtual machine for this question. For

example, you may use one of the machines provided in the elearning labs,

but you need to find one that has Active Directory Domain Services

installed. The NYC-DC server in any of the labs 6713, 6712, 6711, 6710 and

many more are suitable for this question. Alternatively, if you have been

using the MOAC labs, or you would prefer to work on the practical parts of

this question offline, you can download and use a virtual machine on your

own computer. Instructions on how to do this are available in the Using the

MOAC lab manual document.)

You are an assistant network administrator for a company and are asked to

configure a site in an existing Active Directory forest – this involves creating

a new site and moving a domain controller to it. You will need to undertake

the following tasks.

1 Create a new site and name it as your surname.

2 Find out the IP address of the domain controller that you are going to

move.

3 Create a subnet object, which should be in the same subnet as the

domain controller that is to be moved (e.g. 192.168.10.0/24).

4 Create a site link object and name it as your_surname_link. Set the Cost

and Replicate interval to 10 and 15 minutes respectively.

5 Move the domain controller (e.g. NYC-DC) to the newly created site.

You have been asked to undertake these tasks and write a description of

what you do so that a colleague (with a technical background, but with little

experience of using Windows Server 2008) could follow your description in

order to complete this task in the future.

Your answer should take the form of a list of steps for each of the tasks 1 –

5 above. Assume you have already logged in to the domain controller as an

enterprise administrator. It should be possible to complete the list in about

350 words.
