My standalone OPNsense VM is intermittently blocking traffic from the virtual machines that sit on several VLANs. I need someone who already feels at home inside the OPNsense interface to jump in, pinpoint the root cause, and leave me with stable in- and outbound internet access. What I expect you to do is look at the existing VLAN definitions, trace the packet flow, verify tagging on the parent interfaces, and adjust or create gateways and firewall rules where necessary. At the moment the link comes up, then dies a few minutes later; after a reboot it may work again, so the issue seems to be rule or state related rather than a physical problem. Deliverables • Clear written diagnosis of why traffic on each VLAN is dropped. • Corrected interface, gateway, and rule configuration applied on the VM. • Final proof: every VM reaches the internet consistently for at least one hour of continuous testing. Please bring your own favorite troubleshooting tools (packet capture, tcpdump, Wireshark, Flow monitoring) and be ready to share a quick summary of each change so I can learn from the fix.

Hello, I can troubleshoot your standalone OPNsense VM and identify why traffic from the VLAN-based VMs intermittently stops after a few minutes. I understand this needs more than simply adding firewall rules. I would systematically trace the traffic flow from each VM through the VLAN, parent interface, OPNsense interface/gateway, firewall rules, NAT, and outbound interface. I can investigate: * Existing VLAN and interface definitions * VLAN tagging/untagging on parent interfaces * Gateway configuration and gateway monitoring * Firewall rules and rule ordering * NAT and outbound routing * Stateful firewall/session issues * ARP and routing behavior * Packet captures using tcpdump/Wireshark * Logs and live firewall state tables * Intermittent failures before and after reboot * Cross-VLAN and Internet connectivity I will document the root cause for each affected VLAN, apply the required configuration changes, and explain what was changed and why. For final verification, I can continuously test Internet connectivity from eac

Hi, Intermittent drops that clear after a reboot usually point to a state or rule issue, and that's where I'd start. I'll audit the VLAN tagging on the parent interfaces and the hypervisor trunk, review gateways, NAT and firewall rules, check gateway monitoring and state table behavior, and trace traffic with packet captures. You'll get a written diagnosis per VLAN, the corrected configuration applied, a short explanation of each change, and a 1-hour continuous test proving every VM has stable internet access. Which OPNsense version and hypervisor are you using, and how many VLANs are involved? I'm available to start right away. Best regards, Ouijdane

Hi, I run and maintain a 35+ device production network on MikroTik RouterOS - VLANs, WireGuard VPN, QoS, and a default-drop firewall - so I'm very comfortable tracing packet flow across VLAN boundaries and reading gateway/rule interactions. While my daily driver is RouterOS, the underlying concepts (pfSense/OPNsense is FreeBSD's pf-based stack) map directly: interface tagging, per-VLAN gateways, and stateful firewall rule ordering are the same troubleshooting logic I use. My approach: 1) Pull the current interface/VLAN/gateway config and firewall rule set, 2) Run tcpdump/packet capture on the WAN and each VLAN interface while the link is up and again once it drops, to see if it's a state-table timeout, a gateway monitoring/failover flap, or a rule ordering issue, 3) Check DHCP/lease and ARP behavior per VLAN since "works after reboot, dies after a few minutes" strongly points to state or gateway-monitoring related timeouts rather than a physical/cabling problem, 4) Apply the fix, then run continuous connectivity tests from each VLAN for the full hour you require, with a written summary of exactly what was wrong and what changed. Happy to hop on a call or share screen to walk through the fix live so you can learn from it. I can start immediately and deliver within 2 days.

⚡ I HANDLE THIS TYPE OF WORK REALLY WELL. I have just handled an OPNsense VLAN issue where traffic was being intermittently blocked across multiple interfaces. You need a stable internet connection for your VLANs, and I get that. I will check the VLAN definitions, trace the packet flow, and ensure the tagging is spot on. I’ll also look closely at the gateway and firewall rules, which are often the sneaky culprits. I will keep everything clear and simple, without burying you in technical nonsense. MESSAGE ME, I WILL KEEP THIS SIMPLE. Regards, Stefan.

Hi, I can diagnose and fix your OPNsense VLAN routing and intermittent connection drops today. An issue where traffic drops after a few minutes and restores upon reboot typically points to state table timeout issues, gateway monitoring (dpinger) flapping/marking gateways down, asymmetric routing dropping states, or incorrect parent interface tagging/hardware offloading settings on the hypervisor. My execution plan: Trace packet flow using packet capture (tcpdump) and live firewall state logs to identify why packets are dropped. Verify parent interface VLAN tagging, vSwitch settings, and outbound NAT/gateway rules. Adjust state tracking, rules, and gateway failover parameters to ensure link persistence. Run continuous ping and traffic tests across all VLAN VMs for 1+ hour to guarantee stability. Provide a concise written diagnosis and documentation of all changes made. Available to connect and start immediately.

Hi, I’m a developer with experience in Linux, networking and server-side troubleshooting, and I can help investigate your OPNsense VLAN connectivity issue. I’ll review the existing VLAN/interface configuration, VLAN tagging, gateways, firewall rules and state table, then use packet capture/tcpdump to trace where the traffic stops. Since the connection works after reboot and fails later, I’ll specifically investigate state/rule, gateway and routing behaviour rather than assuming a hardware issue. After identifying the cause, I’ll apply the required configuration changes and test the VMs continuously to verify stable internet connectivity. I’ll also provide a clear summary of the root cause and changes made. I’m available to start immediately.

Hi! I'm an Electronics, Telecommunications and Systems Engineering student at UNAM, with practical experience in technical troubleshooting and a strong foundation in networking concepts. I can approach your OPNsense issue methodically by: • Reviewing VLAN definitions, parent interfaces, tagging, and assignments. • Tracing packet flow from each VM through VLANs, gateways, NAT, and firewall rules. • Using tcpdump/Wireshark to identify where packets are being dropped or states become invalid. • Checking routing, gateways, NAT, firewall rules, and connection states. • Testing each VLAN independently and performing continuous connectivity tests after the fix. • Documenting the root cause and every configuration change. I would first establish a baseline and capture the failure when it occurs, allowing me to identify the exact point where traffic stops before making targeted changes. My engineering background, Python training, and networking knowledge have developed a structured approach to troubleshooting technical systems. While I haven't worked professionally with OPNsense yet, I'm comfortable learning new environments and carefully analyzing network configurations. I can also provide a concise technical summary explaining the cause of the issue and why each change was necessary. I'd be glad to help stabilize your VLAN connectivity and leave you with a clear understanding of the fix. Best regards!

Hello, I can trace this over SSH/shell access to the OPNsense VM. The symptom you describe (link comes up, dies after a few minutes, works again after a reboot) points to gateway or state-table issues rather than a physical problem, so I would work in this order: 1. Review the VLAN definitions, the parent interface and tagging, including the virtual switch / port group settings on the hypervisor side, which is a common cause of VLANs that come up and then drop. 2. Check gateway status and monitoring (a gateway marked down and its states flushed can produce exactly this pattern), the default gateway, and any gateway groups. 3. Review firewall rules, outbound NAT and states per VLAN (live firewall log, pfctl state table, state limits). 4. Capture traffic with tcpdump on the VLAN interfaces to see where packets stop. 5. Apply the fixes, run a continuous one-hour test from the VMs on each VLAN, and send you a short written summary of every change so you can learn from it. Questions: how many VLANs are there, and what hypervisor hosts the OPNsense VM (Proxmox, ESXi, other)? Is there a single WAN? Can you give me SSH or console access to OPNsense? My background is 6+ years in IT infrastructure: network administration (Mikrotik, Ubiquiti), VPN servers, Linux, and monitoring with Zabbix. I can have it done within 2 days of getting access. Best regards, Semen

Hi, I work daily with virtualization (Proxmox, Hyper-V, VMware), Linux networking, firewalls (pfSense/OPNsense), VLANs, and packet troubleshooting with tcpdump/Wireshark. Your symptom (works briefly then dies until reboot) usually points to state/rule/gateway or VLAN tagging issues. I will audit VLANs and tagging, trace packet flow, fix gateways and firewall rules, prove every VM has stable internet for 1+ hour, and leave a clear written diagnosis. I can start immediately and deliver within 1 day with remote access to the OPNsense VM.

The intermittent recovery after a reboot points more to state, rule, or gateway-monitoring behavior than a physical link. I’d start with a configuration backup, then trace one affected VM through VLAN tagging, interface assignment, routes, firewall states, NAT, and return traffic. I run Linux and networking infrastructure in my own setup, so I’d use packet captures and flow checks to isolate the responsible layer rather than changing rules blindly. After the correction, I’ll test every VLAN continuously for one hour and provide a concise record of the cause and changes. I’ll keep the current topology intact and limit the fix to the failing path.
