Ndiyo (see below) requires a public-facing website which will contain material ranging from a basic introduction to the organisation, to detailed documentation and technical briefings. This project is for the design of page templates, and a front page, for the site. A more detailed specification of our requirements and example imagery is in the attached zip file.

The site needs a clean, distinctive design, yet needs to be flexible enough that we can easily add material and restructure the site as required in the future. There will be no single person responsible for maintaining the site; we therefore envisage the use of a content management system. We anticipate using Plone as the CMS/publishing system for our website, although we are open to other suggestions if a strong argument can be made in their favour. Content should be editable in plain text or a simple markup language. Documents in PDF format should be easily added to the site, and should have 'clean', stable URLs (as should all pages and sections).

Ndiyo is a non-for-profit organisation created for a single, ambitious purpose: to make the benefits of information and communication technologies (ICT) accessible by the billions of people who will never be able to afford the IT technology that the West takes for granted. Our primary focus is to promote affordable, open computer architectures; in particular we are developing and promoting "thin client" computing powered by open source software. Ndiyo has already triggered the development of brand-new "ultra thin client" hardware, enabling the creation of extremely cost-effective and robust clusters of terminals for use in schools, internet cafés and small businesses in all parts of the world. Ndiyo has operated "in private" for several years, developing the technology necessary achieve our mission. We are now ready to announce ourselves to the world.

## Deliverables

1) A complete front page design containing logo, graphic, links to sections of the site and, possibly, panels containing news and navigation aids from the CMS. This should share as much style and template information as possible with the 'ordinary' pages in the site; indeed perhaps the front page will simply be a page just like any other with some carefully tweaked content.

2) A template for other site pages, which will be text documents with occasional photographs and other images. If several templates are required by the CMS for different modules (e.g. basic text documents, news postings, etc), then you should supply several templates. Document types we envisage initially using are: simple pages giving information about Ndiyo, longer articles/papers available as part of the website and also as PDF (not generated automatically), and news postings. The templates provided should be created following best-practice for the CMS used, thereby enabling them to be easily applied to different modules of the CMS. Pages should have a distinctive yet simple design.

3) One or two mock pages containing text and simple photographs to illustrate the appearance of a typical page on the site. You are not required to create pages of content behind each of the links on the front page.

4) Instructions for installing the page design and templates into the CMS. We would prefer you to develop the pages/templates on your own servers, allow us to view the work on your server, and then provide us with the data and instructions for setting them up starting from a clean install of the CMS. If you would prefer to work a different way (for example by us giving you access to our server to set up the site there), please state this in your bid. (We already have a working Plone 2.0 installation).

5) Original files (e.g. Photoshop / Illustrator files) for any custom images created, so that we can modify embedded text or other details in future.

6) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).

## Platform

As specified in bid, we prefer page templates for Plone 2 (using Zope Page Templates), but are open to suggestions of alternative content management systems.
