Mediawiki Skin and Extensions
I need a mediawiki skin that will accommodate some extensions. As a guide, you should look at www.wikinvest.com. I do not want an exact clone of this skin, but I want something very similar.
The skin needs to accommodate a vertical bar on the left with the account information of the currently logged in user, and some bookmarkes just like what wikinvest has on the right side which they call “The Shelf.” On the right side there should be a vertical breadcrumb which shows which category, subcategory, sub-subcategory, etc… you are currently viewing. Note this breadcrumb thing is the only thing I'm asking for that [url removed, login to view] doesn't have, so in general, [url removed, login to view] will be your go-to guide.
The actual page being viewed will be in between these two large vertical bars and as for the content I would like each page to be broken into specific fields when the page is created, just like on www.wikihow.com. On wikihow when you create a new page you have to fill in certain fields like a form. For example, Ingredients, Step 1, Step 2 and so on. I would like something similar as I plan on having all of my pages follow the same structure and I would like to force the user to write within that structure.
Also, on each actual content page, I need a small area which tells who are the top contributors to that page. I would like three pieces of information there, similar to what wikinvest has. The first line will say Top Contributor: Member Name. Right under that will be Page Created By: Member Name. Finally, right under that will be Page Locked In By: Moderator Name in case the page has been locked in (protected) by a moderator.
Finally, I would like members to be able to have a user page where they can enter basic info about themselves and a profile picture. This part should basically be a clone of wikinvest’s user page. Note that I am not asking for any of wikinvest's most spiffy features like wikicharts and such.
This job really requires two things: the creation of a new skin to accommodate these features (which should look very neat, clean, and professional like wikinvest’s), and the programming of the actual features which are basically just simple extensions to the standard mediawiki installation. If you can do both, fantastic, place a bid. I am also willing to entertain the idea of someone first just creating the skin, and then someone else as a new project programming the features to work with that skin, although that may be more difficult for the programmer later.
A few more things. It would be preferable if you could package your changes to the mediawiki software as though they were an entirely new release of mediawiki all bundled together as one. That way it can easily be installed on different servers in the future.
You will be asked to deliver the full source code and give away exclusive rights to the end-product. Time-frame for completion of the skin design is about 1-week. After that, I was thinking about 3-4 weeks for programming the rest of the features.
Of course, I will provide very specific details to the project winner.
