We are developing a (small budget) two-player online music game and are in need of someone to consult and assist us in the design of this particular aspect of development.
You will be required to:
Design the most efficient system/method.
Liaise with our software developer, so he can code your masterpiece
Setup new server(s) and maintain throughout testing phases.
Both players will have the software/game installed to their machine and have internet access. Game can be played solo without internet, though if a two-player session is selected, it would proceed via:
1. Some form of P2P protocol with server as lobby etc
or, more likely:
2. A dedicated Client-Server where the game session is hosted. Or both...
Whatever will have the lowest latency, as this is forecast to be the biggest issue that could be faced with such a music game - where both users need the shared output (what they hear and see) to be synchronised.
Perhaps indexing server advises the clients of who is hosting the session, then when the end-user selects a host, the server will provide IP and Port number to of the host, and the client will connect via P2P protocol. - IF that actually makes sense...
Anyway we believe that if the clients were simply sending commands on "what to instead" of actual data, latency could be kept to a minimum.
I welcome your general thoughts on this matter and information on your experience in this area.

I know it is hard to quote this job at this stage, so don't worry about the budget amount.
