Virtual Server Traffic Accounting

We need a tool/service designed that can gather and compile usage statistics from remote linux servers running virtual machines. The tool would need to be capable of utilizing the libvirt api for access to ensure compatibility with KVM at minimum, and preferably OpenVZ and Xen as well. If accounting can't be done directly via libvirt, we would like the ability to monitor the bandwidth and limit bandwidth usage. The goal is to use a central server that would either: A) Connect to each machine and gather statistics as needed or B) Run an agent of some sort on each host server to gather information and report back to the central server. The tool , at minimum, needs to be capable of compiling monthly reports of cpu and bandwidth utilization for each virtual machine. Each virtual machine will have a unique name and identifiers, so it would be helpful if the utility was able to handle unique machines being moved to different servers. The script needs to be capable of running on current stable build of Redhat/CentOSor Debian/Ubuntu from the console, and report back the statistics monthly. We would like the accounting too to have a web interface than can be secured via username and password. Within the web ui, we would like to be able to assign virtual machines to specific clients so that they may view only the utilization statistics for specific virtual machines. In summary, we are looking for a worker/team to build a monitoring tool capable of accessing remote libvirt driven virtual services and compiling traffic and utilization statistics for billing purposes. For extra credit: - We would like the tool to have an interface for mobile devices, specifically an android application, and we would like to have the ability to set alarms and alerts based on utilization thresholds. -If a client has purchase 100Gb of bandwidth per month, we would like the ability to send out an email when the come close to their allotment. #### Addendum #### Per request, I would be open so something other that the libvirt api, but it would need to be capable of generating the same information available in libvirt. It would need to be compatible with KVM and Xen at minimum, optionally OpenVZ. It would need to be able to track statistics across migrations. ## Deliverables We would like this tool to be as elegant as possible so that it is easy for a experienced linux/unix/web administrator to maintain. The tool should be flexible enough to handle more than one libvirt protocol, but priority should be places on KVM/QEMU monitoring. Xen is also very important and should be added if? available? without? compromising? KVM functionality. We will need a reliable way to backup and redeploy the tool in the event of a server failure. The web ui should have a minimun of 2teir ACL with the ability to control who has access to specific statistics. It would be helpful if the webui and collectors did not have to reside on the same physical/virtual service, but is not required.? We would like to see the ability to also display an embedded java vnc console that initiates a connection to a specific protected backend address+port. The user should not be able to configure or modify this destination, and it's configuration should only be available to site admins.
