8853 Script sendmail problem

I had another scriptlance programmer design a script for me. However, it fails to send a necessary email with the form info. The problem is described below: "PHP mail() isn't functioning on FreeBSD Server. A script that uses the mail() was moved from one server where it works fine to a freebsd server where it no longer works. Mail() always returns "false" giving no errors or means to troubleshoot. Sendmail path also seems to be configured correctly for PHP." Acceptable solutions would be a workaround or fixing whatever problem exists to cause this incompatiblity. The server is a on a virtual private server so should be available for adjustment.
