We are setting up a new online store. OScommerce is installed and I have added Easy Populate and a few other contributions by following the instructions included with the contributions. I would now like someone to:
1.) Briefly review the site setup. Just making sure that the permissions on files are set as they should be and pointing out any other obvious errors.
2.) Import a very large product database from our largest distributor. It's about 22,000 lines when opened in Excel. I have access to the image files that correspond to these products.
3.) Provide clear documentation and explain to me how I can: i.) update the database on a regular basis when my distributor updates their product lists (keeping in mind that there will be other distributors' products added to our store as well), and ii.) manage the product database (ie: backup, restore).
Some particular concerns:
There are a few things that confuse me about the data and image files we get from our distributor. (I have included the column headings from the data file below.)
Issue #1.) In the first column, row #1 is a particular item, then rows 2,3,4, and 5 are other versions (attributes?) of the item (for example, "Small", "Medium", "Large", and "X-Large".) Then, row 6 will be another item (with the next several rows containing the different sizes. I'm not sure how to manipulate the data file to get it into a format that will fit nicely into Easy Populate.
Issue #2.) In the data file, there is not an explicit reference to an image name that corresponds to that product. Generally, if there is a product "ABCD1234", there will be an "ABCD1234.jpg" or "ABCD1234.gif" in the image database. Some are jpg's and some are gif's. Also, the image files have a hierarchy to the folders base on manufacturer, but it doesn't seem to me to match a hierarchy from the data file.
This distributor has many other clients using these databases, so it seems that other people have been able to work around these issues.
Please only bid if you have experience with large database files.
The column headings on the product data file read as follows:
Name Description Online Name Online Description Detailed Description Preferred Vendor Base Price Fulfillment1 Fulfillment2 Fulfillment3 Online Price Weight On Hand Availability Ships From Team Name Internal ID Category Subcategory1 Subcategory2 Subcategory3
