This project requires troubleshooting WordPress and the registration process. Knowledge needed will be: WordPress, PHP, and WordPress' registration hooks.
We're using a few plugins that play a role in the registration process. All are 'hooked' (via WordPress' registration hooks) into user registration. We have found a problem with registration as it relates to two plugins not communicating correctly.
We are using the latest Theme My Login (plugin) and Simple Press v5 forum (plugin).
Note (in case it helps understand the issue): within Theme My Login, we're using the: Custom Password, Custom Email, Custom Redirection, and User Moderation (email confirmation) modules.
We are in beta with the Simple Press v5 forum. When we launch, we will have the forum be publicly viewable, but users will only be able to post when they have registered.
Registration is done through Theme My Login (to brand the registration page), CIMY User Extra Fields (to add additional fields to registration), and the forum also hooks into registration with a math-spam tool. When users register, they are supposed to be added to "Members" usergroup within the forum, which will allow them to have permissions to post replies to forum topics. When we enable Theme My Login, they are *not* added as a "member" within the forum. When we disable the Theme My Login plugin, the user is added to the "Member" usergroup automatically. So we have confirmed the Theme My Login plugin is somehow preventing the registration to go through correctly.
We wish to continue to use Theme My Login because it allows for several things (branded login/registration pages, email confirmation and branded emails within registration), but we are also open to other suggestions that are quick and easy to setup and use.
