This is in the nature of an exploratory analysis to decide if this project is potentially justifiable.
We are a telecommunications company, providing long distance service.
We are considering providing a subscription based GPS tracking service with MySQL database, invoicing, payment facility. This would be an add-on to a web domain site.
To track a variety of GPS enabled devices: personal, vehicle. They can use either 'push' or 'pull' technology (this according to our current understanding of this technology).
We are looking for the most comprehensive possible service options.
We are unsure of the programming platforms necessary, (can it be done in PHP??). The tracking devices would be sourced from (mainly) China and/or Taiwan, so the software would need to conform to whatever those specifications would be. Maybe NMEA compatibility too?
Other maps compatibility also required and Google Earth.
The idea would be to sell and install tracking units, then provide internet access to our server for the customer(s) to dial in with their username/password and see where their tracking units are and relevant information about each unit.
We don't have an in-depth knowledge of requirements nor the technical aspects of GPS, but would expect to be advised of these by the successful bidder who needs to be an expert in this area.
However, there are some starting ideas needing to be incorporated:
monitor/alert travelling speed of tracking device
geo fencing (set geographic area limits, report tracking device arrival/depart times)
monitor location, speed, time of tracking device
sms and mobile phone enabled
The service will be PC based. We have seen an interface at [url removed, login to view] (Atlas demo) which we like.
Copyright in the final software would be ours and the successful bidder required to sign a NDA.
Final pricing and specifications would be discussed and agreed upon prior to any commitment by either party.
