Hello, I have developed a plugin that does just what you need for the company I work in. It never gets to time out, since products are pulled using AJAX requests, 50 products in batch, and it successfully pulls about 3500 products in less then 3 minutes. It pulls product name, description, technical characteristics, and a product image. It also has options to pull products like variations, if needed. It does not check if products are discontinued though, we did not need that kind of functionality. Unfortunately my plugin is for my company's web site exclusively, since it has very specific parameters we use, but my knowledge about the syncing process is at very high level. Only thing that could slow down my work on your plugin is the way it is written - if it is written well, then there will be no problems for me to understand its data flow and functions.
