I am creating a marketplace web site similar to freelancer.com using a Theme called ProjectTheme .
I am using a multisite environment with three sites , one for each of the initial languages that I am going to deploy and of course using child themes for all the changes.
This theme meets most of my requirements and I have made some changes into style, index, header etc. to accommodate my needs.
On this theme , by registration it is possible to select if a user is Service Provider or Service Contractor but misses two things that for me are important: The first one is extra fields on the registration page and the second one that the users receive a different welcome e-mail depending of their user type.
Since I am not that technical I was thinking to do this by acquiring a plugin but did not find one that would do both things and I asked the developer of this theme to do this for me. I will not get too much into details but the one week project has become already 7 weeks and it is still half way.
What it has been done so far is:
-some changes in the first child theme ( there are three, one for each language) functions file to add the extra fields.
- I copied the same changes etc to the other two child themes.
-Add an extra file: [login to view URL] to be able to differentiate between the two user types from the very beginning of the registration process.
The results so far:
-The extra user fields are shown in the three sites, in fact there is a place under the Theme configuration where I can add custom fields and they will be added automatically to Personal Information and the registration page.
-In the Theme configuration, under Email settings the two new tabs for Servicee Provider and Service contractor are shown: These are the e-mails that the users should get depending of the their user type.
What is missing/ does not work:
- Only the first child theme works as it should, when the users register they get the e-mail specific for their user type but on the other two sites ( Spanish and Dutch) the users do not get the specific e-mail per user type. As I’ve mentioned I have copied the changes to the [login to view URL] of both sites but probably I am missing something.
- The data entered by the users during the registration process is not saved, neither on the user Personal Information page nor the meta data, or with other words, not saved anywhere.
I asked the developer to look into it but it seems he cannot make it work, don’t ask me why.
There is also another thing that I would like to change and that it was supposed to be ready because it is very straight forward but it is not done: Same as in Freelancer.com, the person posting the job can chose between a "sealed bid" or a "standard bid". On this theme the Standard bid is the one used by default and the person posting the job has the possibility to change this by selecting "sealed bid". What I want to have is the opposite, the sealed bid as default and give the person posting the chance to select Standard Bid if he/she wants.
For the registration page, the task is either understand what is not working right now and solve it or just doing it from scratch whether it is with a widget or by customizing the theme.
I hope I have been able to describe the scope of the project clearly but please do nto hesitate to contact me with any further questions.
