I am looking to adapt Zen Cart to fit with our way of pricing shipping.
We sell a range of products online ([url removed, login to view]) and are currently re-writing our web site in Zen Cart.
We like to price the shipping charge for each item, independantly (not based on weight, not based on volume, no rules, just based on what we choose to charge for shipping)
We want to input two shipping rates for each item in our inventory. First rate being applied to purchase of single item, second rate being reduced amount, for shipping of additional items (where more than one item is ordered.
Also where a customer buys say three different items. We want to charge the highest first shipping rate of the three items and then add to this the reduced shipping rate for each additional item ordered.
Hope this is clear. You're most welcome to call and ask questions.

I'm new to this and I guess i've made a classic error. Having got further into this project the specification has expanded (predictable specification creepage). To save a messy description I follow below with the entire and expanded description (you can ignore the original posting).
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused by my original sloppy posting, and my thanks for your time and effort. Cheers Nick
Here it is:
Zen Cart Shipping module
We want to be able to specify an individual shipping rate per item and a second individual shipping rate for multiple purchases
(i.e. Item A costs £5.00 to ship, but a second or third Item A would cost £2.50 each to ship). The discounted multiple rate should be applied if a customer already has something in their shopping cart (ie if a customer has purchased Item B, then A would cost £2.50 to ship).
Importantly in the case a customer buys different types of items the more expensive first shipping rate should apply.
Item A costs £5.00 to ship the first item and £2.50 for each additional item A,
Item B costs £10.00 to ship and £7 for each additional Item B
Customer buys item A and Item B, shipping should be £10 + £2.50
Postcode & Country exceptions:
We charge more for shipping to some parts of the UK, and overseas exports. We therefore require the facility for up to ten additional different ‘Exception’ shipping rates.
We want to set up these rates by inputting the shipping charge into one box with a box alongside it where we can enter the postcode/country names to which this rate will apply. (There will usually be more than one postcode or country name to list in each of these boxes)
So: The standard published shipping rate is the default, unless the delivery postcode/country is listed in one of the exception boxes. If the delivery postcode/country is in an exception box, then the rate attached to that box applies. (We do not need an exception rate for the additional delivery charges on multiple purchases; these can go through at the standard rate).
When listing the postcodes, it would save a lot of time if it was possible for it to pick up on postcodes written as say AB15-30, instead of AB15, AB16, AB17 and so on. (This is not a deal breaker but a useful time saver if possible).
UK Postcodes are made up of alpha and numeric characters. For this exercise the relevant part of the postcode is the digits remaining after the last three characters have been removed (crazy system- but that’s what we’re stuck with)
