The mention of employee_residence gives it away.. that is the Data Science Job Salaries dataset, the one with work_year, experience_level, remote_ratio and company_size. Worth knowing two things about it before building anything on top. It is around 3,700 rows, not 10,000 plus, so if the count matters you will need to join another source. And employee_residence coming out as a top feature is a bit of a mirage. The dataset is heavily US weighted and salary_in_usd was converted at one rate per year, so the model is mostly learning is this a US row rather than anything about the job. Random Forest will happily report that as importance and the number will look fine. What I would actually do: keep Random Forest as the baseline, add a gradient boosted model, and report error separately for US and non US rows so the gap is visible instead of hidden inside one RMSE. Salaries are also ranges, not points, so quantile regression giving a low to high band reads far better on a frontend than a single number that is always slightly wrong. Rest of the stack is straightforward for me. FastAPI endpoints, Postgres on Neon, React for the views, ETL as a repeatable script rather than a notebook.
