We are a small logistics company looking for an experienced Python/Django developer to build a custom inventory management web application. The frontend design is almost finalized; we need a developer to handle the backend and integrate it with the UI. • REST API in Django (ideally using Django REST Framework) that exposes all core inventory endpoints—products, stock movements, locations, suppliers and customers. • PostgreSQL as the single source of truth. Please structure the models with future growth in mind; migrations must be clean and documented. • Real-time stock tracking. I’m open to Channels, Redis or any approach you prefer, as long as users see quantity changes instantly across sessions. • Role-based access. We’ll start with three roles—Admin, Staff and Read-Only—and permissions should be enforced both in the API and the dashboard views. • Smooth integration with the existing Figma design: your templates (or React/Vue components if you split the stack) must match the provided layouts pixel-perfectly. • Unit tests that cover critical paths plus a short README explaining setup, environment variables and deployment steps.

Hello, I would build this in Django + DRF on PostgreSQL, with stock movements as the source of truth and derived balances, because the hard part here is keeping quantities correct across products, locations, suppliers/customers, and live multi-session updates. For real-time tracking, I’d use Channels + Redis so API writes and dashboard views update instantly across sessions. - Django/DRF backend with clean models, documented migrations, and versioned APIs. - RBAC for Admin, Staff, Read-Only in both API permissions and dashboard views. - Real-time stock updates via Channels/Redis with full movement history. - Unit tests for critical paths, plus README for setup, env vars, and deployment. Should I integrate your finalized Figma into Django templates, or is there an existing frontend/codebase and version I need to plug this API into? I can start with the data model and API contract. Hi! We can handle this end to end — it's exactly the kind of build we do well. Before locking the scope, the one thing I need to understand is the frontend setup: is the Figma design meant to be implemented as Django templates, or as a separate React/Vue SPA consuming the API? That decision changes the project meaningfully — a decoupled frontend means CORS configuration, token-based auth, a separate build pipeline, and additional deployment coordination, whereas server-rendered templates keep everything in a single codebase. Either path works; I just want to confirm which one you have in mind before committing to a number. On the backend: DRF handles the product, stock movement, location, supplier, and customer endpoints cleanly, with RBAC enforced at both the API and view layers using permission classes — no custom middleware needed. PostgreSQL is the right choice here; we'd design the schema with normalization and documented migrations from day one so the model scales without painful restructuring later. For real-time tracking, Redis with Django Channels is the natural fit — stock changes propagate instantly across sessions without polling. Tests on critical paths and a README covering setup, environment variables, and deployment are part of every delivery. Looking forward to seeing the Figma files once you're ready to share them — that'll let us assess the integration side accurately before finalizing scope. Gustavo & the DoTheCode team

Your logistics inventory project needs a DRF backend wired to your near-finished Figma UI, with live stock updates and role permissions enforced at every layer — here is exactly how I will build it. Products, stock movements, locations, suppliers and customers will each get dedicated DRF endpoints backed by PostgreSQL models designed with future growth in mind. I will use select_related and prefetch_related from the start on the stock movement queries specifically, because those endpoints will be hit hardest once your warehouse team is tracking movements in real time and lazy loading will kill response times fast. Django Channels with Redis will broadcast quantity changes server-side the moment a write completes, so all open sessions update instantly without polling — no frontend workaround needed. Admin, Staff and Read-Only permissions will be enforced at the serializer and view level, not just the dashboard views, closing the API bypass gap your description implies matters to you. One risk worth flagging: if your Figma file has not yet specified loading states for the WebSocket reconnect scenario, the UI will look broken on flaky connections. I can define a fallback pattern during integration. Unit tests on critical paths plus a README covering environment variables and deployment steps are included. Delivery: USD 300, 6 days.

Hi there, To achieve real-time stock tracking for your inventory management web application, I can utilize Django Channels integrated with Redis to ensure that users experience instant updates across all sessions when stock quantities change. I'll build a REST API using Django REST Framework, with clean, documented migrations and future-proof model structures in PostgreSQL to ensure scalability. For the role-based access you mentioned, I'll enforce permissions across the API and dashboard views for Admin, Staff, and Read-Only roles. I'll also ensure the frontend aligns pixel-perfectly with your existing Figma designs, maintaining a seamless user experience. To better understand your specific needs, I have a few questions: 1- Are there any particular stock movement processes that should be prioritized in the API? 2- What specific metrics would you like to track for each user role? 3- Do you have preferences for the CI/CD pipeline setup for deployment? Happy to discuss the project in more detail and propose the best technical solutions for your needs.

Hi, I'm Denis, a full-stack developer who has built several inventory and logistics systems using Django and PostgreSQL. I understand what you need—a solid backend API that syncs with your frontend, handles real-time stock updates, and scales as your business grows. The core challenge is building a reliable REST API with role-based permissions while keeping stock data consistent across concurrent sessions. Real-time updates are straightforward with Redis pub/sub or Django Channels. I'd start by mapping your Figma design to Django models and API endpoints, ensuring the database structure supports future growth. Then I'd build the REST API using Django REST Framework with permissions baked into serializers and views. For real-time updates, Redis is the pragmatic choice—lightweight, fast, and handles stock movements cleanly. The key technical consideration is tracking stock movements. I'd implement an immutable transaction log alongside current quantities, giving you accuracy and audit capability while preventing race conditions and maintaining data integrity under load. One realistic risk is scope creep around permissions—role-based access can get complicated if requirements shift. I'd mitigate this by building a clear permission matrix upfront and testing thoroughly before integration. I can start right away. Let's discuss the details. Thanks, Denis.

Hi, I understand you need a custom inventory management web application with a Django REST backend, PostgreSQL as the source of truth and a frontend implemented closely against your finalized Figma designs. I can build the backend using Django and Django REST Framework, with structured models and migrations for products, stock movements, locations, suppliers and customers. I’ll design the data layer so inventory transactions remain consistent and traceable as the system grows, with PostgreSQL handling the authoritative stock state. For real-time updates, I can use Django Channels with Redis/WebSockets where appropriate, allowing stock changes to propagate across active sessions without requiring users to manually refresh the dashboard. Authentication and role-based permissions will be enforced at the API level and reflected consistently in the dashboard. I can integrate the backend with your existing UI and implement the required frontend components to match the Figma layouts closely across desktop and mobile. Critical inventory, authentication and permission workflows will have automated tests, with clean environment configuration and deployment documentation included in the README. Best regards, Houssame

Your PostgreSQL schema will become a bottleneck if you don't partition the stock_movements table from day one—once you hit 500K records, queries slow to 8+ seconds and migrations lock the entire database. That risk disappears with proper indexing and partitioning strategy upfront. Quick questions - are you planning multi-warehouse support in phase two, or can we optimize for single-location first? And what's your expected transaction volume per day so I can size the Redis cache correctly? Here is the architectural approach: - DJANGO REST FRAMEWORK: Build versioned API endpoints with nested serializers for products/suppliers, enforce role permissions via custom DRFPermission classes, and structure models with abstract base classes so adding warehouses later requires zero refactoring. - REAL-TIME STOCK TRACKING: Implement Django Channels with Redis as the message broker; when a POST hits /api/stock-movements/, a WebSocket broadcast updates all connected dashboard sessions within 100ms. - FIGMA-TO-CODE INTEGRATION: Convert your designs into reusable Django templates with Tailwind utility classes, ensuring responsive breakpoints match the Figma frames exactly and all interactive states render consistently. I've built similar inventory systems for two e-commerce clients processing 10K+ daily transactions without downtime. Let's schedule a 20-minute call to review your Figma file and confirm the deployment pipeline before we kick off.

Hi, is the database schema already mapped out, and do you need the stock sync tested across multiple active browser sessions immediately? This logistics management app sounds like a solid workflow puzzle to solve. Integrating live inventory data with static UI layouts requires careful handling of race conditions during concurrent stock updates. The best way forward is structuring atomic transactions in PostgreSQL alongside a lightweight pub-sub layer to guarantee zero sync lag. Are you available for a quick chat today to map out the backend milestones?
