Jewelry designer Mold Library

A simple data base that can manage a catalog of 3D print wax designs, rubber molds that is associated with these designs and digital files that are associated with these designs.

Background--

When designing a jewelry piece a designer can create the design with the use of a CAD design program or carve the design by hand. From the CAD design file pathway the file is send over to a printer to create the three dimensional resin model. Then a rubber/silicon mold is made from the resin so this can be forwarded to a metal caster to create a physical piece in silver or gold using the Lost Wax Method.

Project mission

The goal of this database program to organize/manage the data that enable the user to find the relevant data for a particular design and all designs that re related or similar base on style or for particular center diamond shape or a particular size, or design of similar dimensions.

Once the design is identified by the program then its mold, resin, CAD locations should be able to be retrieved. Images of the design, its specification (dimensional measurements, weight, number of diamonds/gems, weight/size of the diamonds/gems), its location, CAD file links should be organized for the user.

Multiple Designs or molds should be able to be selected from the database and grouped for the user. Summary reports such as of CAD files, diamonds/gems in numbers and mm sizes needed by the user should be readily produced and emailed to respective relevant parties/vendors for processing along the manufacturing pathway.

Side notes

Noted that 3D printers require CAD files via email to print the resin.

Once the resin (positive) is created then a rubber/silicon mold(negative impression) is made from this resin.

Casters only need the rubber/silicon mold to shoot wax into the negative cavity of the mold to create a positive wax model of the design.

This wax model with a sprue is placed into an investment container enclosed by ceramic powder and baked in high temperature. The wax gets melted and the ceramic investment now has the negative cavity that will receive the molten silver. Once the metal cools and solidifies the investment is broken and the design in metal is released for further processing.

CAD design pathway

1. Design CAD file --needs CAD file ID

2. Print three dimensional design in resin. Resin must be ID and cataloged

3. Resin is use to create the rubber/silicon mold. Mold must be given an ID number. This Mold ID Number will be the same ID number as the Resin ID number and the CAD file ID Number.

4. Mold with the ID number is send to caster for metal creation of the design. Caster uses the Mold ID number to track the mold and order within its domain.

5. Mold is returned to designer and placed into the MOLD LIBRARY at it designated location noted by its ID number which consists of identifying its style classification and physical location coordinate.

The Digital and Physical Mold Library should be exactly identical. The program should be able to print a report that lists all the molds belonging to a specific style class.

Data Base Must Track Mold Migration (Asset)

6. Mold is release in the future date for further use in another project/order. Mold is retrieve from it location and must be track closely as it is a company asset. It must be sign out and sign in again. The program must be able to track the time/date, who sign out/in, recipient vendor, order number, order placement acknowledgement.

Digital Caster Order From--this is an order from that is given to the caster at the time when the order for metal fabrication is placed.
