I am a science fiction and fantasy writer with a published short story through Epigraph Press titled "The Rats," and I have written three fantasy books for elementary-age readers. On the teaching side, I have experience as a university-level instructor, having taught cybersecurity courses at the graduate level. Leading a 35-40 minute session for middle schoolers and workshopping their writing would be a natural fit. For my theme, I would propose Building Worlds: How to Create Settings That Feel Real. Hi! I saw your posting and this is something I’d really love to be part of. I’m a published student writer and I’ve been writing for a while now through my student paper, Case Probe, an org I founded titled Let Us Speak, and I’m currently working on a piece for Rising Rights and a submission for The Borgen Project / Borgen Magazine. I also do a lot of work on the leadership side of writing too! I host workshops, interviews, meetings, and conferences through Let Us Speak. Right now, I’m also working on a children’s book with my team, so I’m constantly in that space of creating stories and figuring out how to make writing feel fun and real for different audiences. If I were to do a session, I think I’d talk about something like how to start writing even when you don’t feel ready. I’d want it to feel more like a conversation than a lecture. I would give them actual ways to start writing without overthinking it. I’m comfortable speaking, sharing my own work, and helping students improve their writing in a really supportive way. I also just genuinely enjoy helping people find confidence in their ideas. I can send writing samples and hop on a call if needed! I’d be really excited to be considered for this.
