Design a small light-weight portable radiation measurement device which provides accurate quantitative measurement of radiation dosage and dosage rates,. The device has the “look and feel” and major components of a smart cell phone (on an upgradable Android-platform,) plus an integral gamma radiation silicon detector. Ease of operation is a must as the device will be used by both technical, and mostly, by nontechnical users.
operating system which we have choose is Android.A solid state detector (2-pin First Sensor X100-7 or similar for prototype), pulse counting circuit and software for processing pulses proportional to detected radiation levels, in accordance with a prescribed program and software. A MICRO SDHC card (accessibility and storage size TBD), a real-time clock (RTC) with battery backup, low battery level condition, warning alerts including audible (tones), tactile (vibration) and visual (flashing/pulsing) alarms, pulse-counting and pulse count accumulation circuits, data logging capability, microprocessor-based circuitry, and power supply circuits, GPS, WI-FI, Bluetooth capability -- all powered by a high-capacity rechargeable Li-ion battery (capacity TBD). Software data logging capability to record events (location with optional GPS) and time of occurrence with the ability to be stored in NVRAM and a removable MICRO SDHC memory card (capacity TBD).
Libraries to be written in C and/or any other languages that can be compiled to ARM or x86 native code and installed using the Android Native Development Kit. Complete applications must be compiled and installed using traditional development tools.
