Opening balances and GST ledgers lining up with Tally on day one is the part that bites. Tally groups and voucher types do not drop into Odoo accounts and journals with minor transformation. If GST input/output, HSN, and stock value are even a little off, the books look migrated and then fail the first return. I would not try to make Odoo behave like Tally. I would set up Indian GST and tax in Odoo, map your ledgers to a proper chart, bring customers and products, then cut over with balances that match Tally's trial balance and stock summary. First thing is a dry run on a test Odoo: one company export, ledger mapping, import, then trial balance, GST ledgers, and inventory value side by side. You see the match before anything live moves. Tally and Odoo disagree structurally in three places: Tally ledgers under groups do not map one-to-one onto Odoo's chart of accounts, Tally stock items carry godown and batch detail Odoo models differently, and voucher types have no direct Odoo equivalent — they become journal entries with a defined mapping. None of that is hard, but it is decisions, and they are yours to make, not mine to guess. How I'd run it: export from Tally via XML, load into a staging layer, and reconcile before anything touches live Odoo. The check that matters is that your trial balance in Odoo equals your trial balance in Tally on the cutover date, to the rupee. If it doesn't reconcile, it isn't migrated. Then the module setup as listed — Accounting, Invoicing, Sales, Purchase, Expenses, Inventory, CRM — configured to match how you actually used Tally, not to Odoo defaults.
