I need help fixing a couple of correlations tables in R as part of a project I'm working on for school. Some of the correlations are wonky (for example, "led a class project" had a -0.33 correlation with "current salary" for MA graduates, which seems odd), so I was told to check for outliers and adjust any that are heavily skewing the data by moving them in two standard deviations. I figured out how to make scatterplots to see the outliers, but I'm not sure how to adjust those outliers.
I also need to check each correlation for statistical significance so I can mark them in my table.
I've spent some time in R, but I'm not much of a stats person or a coding person, so this has been a great source of frustration.
I'm attaching the dataset for these tables ([login to view URL]). I'll also attach the .rmv file I've been working with in case it's helpful, as well as the larger dataset ([login to view URL]) I used for that .rmv file.
I need TWO separate tables: one for MA graduates ("1" in Q3), and one for PhD graduates ("2" in Q3).
If you could do the following for each table, and send me the .rmv file so I can see how you did it, that would be amazing:
- Find and adjust any outliers that are skewing the data by moving them in two standard deviations (and explain to me how you did it in R), so that the correlations table makes more sense.
- Check the correlations for statistical significance (and explain to me how you did it, and how to mark them).
In the data file, there are 13 predictors:
*These are Likert scales of 1-5, but they got coded as 27-31 in the data for some reason. Please make sure to fix them in R!
And 6 outcomes:
1. Q6, a 1-5 Likert Scale for "Employment in I-O Field (within 6 months of graduation)"
2. Q8, a 1-5 Likert Scale for "Employment in I-O Field (current)"
3. Q10_1-Q10_7 averaged together (1-5 Likert Scales; for this one, average the responses to all 7 of these questions) for "Work Well-Being (average score)"
4. Q11_1-Q11_7 averaged together (1-5 Likert Scales; same as above, average the responses to all 7 of these questions) for "Life Well-Being (average score)"
5. Q13, for "First Job Salary"
6. Q14, for "Current Salary"
The current correlations tables I have can be found in lines 272-297 (for MA) and 329-353 (for PhD) in the .rmv file.
