R scripts should run correctly.
Larval competition of pest bean weevils can be crassified into either contest or scramble types. Contest larvae kill opponents and monopolize a bean. Scramble larvae share bean contents with others. Minimum requirement for scramble larvae should be smaller than that of contest larvae so that scramble larvae can escape from lethal battle with contest larvae. Adults of contest and scramlbe species or strains should have evolved so as to coordinate oviposition behavior with the larval competition types. Contest type adults would prefer disperse eggs among beans. If that is true, scramble adults would prefer to heavily clump their eggs on a bean without eggs of contest type.
The following tasks are steps to create an individual-based model (IBM) of competition between contest and scramble types. Make your answers against the following tasks.
Make a R function for making evenly/clumped distributions of eggs among arbitrary number of beans. Make an R script named “oviposit.R” for the function and plotting histograms of egg distributions.
Make a R function for simulating contest/scramble competition within a given size of bean infested by arbitrary number of contest/scramble larvae. Make an R script named “competition.R” for the function and plotting competition curves.
Modify the R function for TASK 2. in which a bean consists of two parts: a periphery and a core. At the periphery only exploitation competition occurs whereas both interference and exploitation competition occurs at the core part. Make an R script named “cpCompetition.R” for the modified function and plotting competition curves for various bean sizes.
Combine TASKs 1 and 3. so as to obtain a procedure for evolutionary simulations of contest/scramble types. Make an R script named “evolution.R” for the simulation and plotting number of contest/scramble types in the course of the evolution.
Explain the results obtained with TASK 4 in a file named “explanation.[txt|doc|docx|odt|pdf].”
