Job Description:
Part 1 - SQL
Preparation
Use the Adventure Works Datawarehouse database you downloaded. In this assignment you might need to search for data tables and their columns within the adventure works datawarehouse database.
Answer the following questions:
1. Create a list of Products and their units balance.
Clue: Design the Query that shows [EnglishProductName] column and [UnitsBalance]. Make sure the [units balance] is summarized.
Assumption: Accept every record in FactProductInventory table as an new inventory addition transaction to the existing stock.
2. Create a list of Countries and their salesamount.
Clue: Design the query that shows the [SalesTerritoryCountry] broken down by [SalesAmount]. Make sure the [SalesAmount] is summarized.
Assumption: Ignore the Currency Codes and assume that each transaction is done with the same currency in the [dbo].[FactInternetSales] table.
3. Create a stored procedure that runs the above created SQL statement dynamically so that the user specifies the Sales country.
Clue: Give the query that will create the mentioned stored procedure
4. Execute the above stored procedure and provide the sales for Canada.
Clue: Give the query to execute this previously created stored procedure with the parameter
5. Create another stored procedure that will create a table whenever it runs. The table will be CustomerGeography. It should include the following attributes:
● [DimCustomer] joined with [DimGeography] to fetch the columns [City] and [EnglishCountryRegionName].
● This new table must be created everytime you run the stored procedure.
6. Create a log table that has log_date_time, row_count as columns and use this table to log the above stored procedures executions.
Clue: you might need to insert into the log table after the main load script is executed. Probably the below pre-defined functions might come handy.. GETDATE(),@@ROWCOUNT
Bonus Question:
Create a stored procedure named “GetAverageProductSalesAmountUSD” which will first calculate the USD equivalence of all transactions for the SalesAmount column according to Order Date seen within the entire FactInternetSales table. Later, in the same stored procedure, filter out for the transactions that occurred between ‘01-Jan-2012’ and ‘31-Dec-2013’ based on Order Date to calculate average SalesAmountUSD values for each product. Finally, give the combination output of each Product Key, English Product Name and calculated average SalesAmountUSD value which contains only 2 decimal digits for this specified time range. In the stored procedure, include a logging mechanism to keep the execution datetime of this stored procedure.
Hint: Use the FactCurrencyRate table’s EndOfDayRate column to find out the corresponding currency rates for the related Order Dates to convert SalesAmount into USD.
