I am looking for a 3ds max generalist, knowing mental ray, to prepare a scene correctly for rendering. My project is actually a 3D animation that will be displayed in an art installation. Here is an extract frame: [login to view URL] . The scene is already created and features a male body model I bought on Turbosquid but it seems like there are some errors in the file. I’m a creative and not a technician, that’s why I would need some help!
I sent some test renders to a render farm online service and they take a very long time to get done, sometimes freeze, sometimes get stuck at 100%… The animation is about 3000 frames in total so the scene really needs to be effective, well configured in order to make baking and rendering working normally and efficiently.
Render farm support service suspects the model is not optimized for 3dsMax 2016 and recent MentalRay versions, the skin shader is from 2011-2013 versions so it might not be fully compatible. It can cause problems when older models and materials are used in newer app version, according to them. That’s their suggestion but they are not sure since it needs to really get into technical checking. So the problem might come from something else as well.
The job would be to look into all of this, and optimize / prepare the scene, modify it if needed to make it ready and as fast and efficient as possible for baking and rendering (but keeping the same quality and visual aspect).
You will probably figure out better where is the problem by checking the file directly but again, some important points are: check shaders (possibly something wrong with them), optimize baking, optimize rendering, optimize general file settings, GI settings (!!), check what is wrong in the model and fix it, etc.
Another problem (which might be connected) is: small black marks are visible on the model skin on some frame renders. It could be a render problem with the hair, but not sure! (example: [login to view URL] )
