My Questions. - What are the exact dimensions, placement (floor hearth vs surround), distance to the firebox, and expected surface temperatures? - What is the existing substrate (concrete, CMU, or wood), any weight limits, and local code clearances I must respect? My Suggestions. - Build a castable refractory core for strength and heat, then apply a fiber‑reinforced plaster skin to get the rustic rock look without excess weight. - Use integral mineral pigments and a breathable, heat‑safe sealer, with discreet expansion breaks to reduce cracking.
