I run an Asterisk-based PBX on Linux that handles SIP/RTP traffic through a Synway GSM gateway. During live calls we hear persistent background noise that degrades voice quality. Static, echo, and other artifacts are not the main problem—the line simply has a constant hiss that makes conversations tiring and unprofessional. I need someone who knows Asterisk, Synway hardware, SIP signalling and RTP media flow inside out to: • trace the source of the background noise, whether it sits in the gateway, codec choice, gain levels, jitter-buffer settings, or network path • apply and document configuration tweaks (Asterisk .conf files, Synway parameters, codec packs, echo-cancellation, AGC, etc.) • prove the fix with test calls recorded before-and-after so I can hear the improvement You’ll have SSH access to the Linux server and remote GUI access to the Synway web panel. All work has to be performed live yet without interrupting production traffic for more than a few minutes at a time; I can schedule low-usage windows if deeper reboots or firmware upgrades are required. Please tell me about similar noise-reduction jobs you’ve handled with Asterisk or GSM gateways and outline the first diagnostics you would run so I know we’re on the same wavelength.

Hi! I have handled similar noise issues on Asterisk setups running through GSM gateways before so I know how to isolate whether the hiss is coming from the gateway hardware, codec choice, gain staging, jitter buffer settings, or the network path itself. My first diagnostics would be to pull the current Asterisk config and Synway parameters to check codec selection and any transcoding happening, review gain and AGC settings on the gateway channels, and capture a short RTP trace during a live call to see if the noise floor pattern points to analog gain on the GSM side or something introduced downstream. Once I narrow down the source I would apply targeted fixes such as adjusting gain levels, enabling or tuning echo cancellation, switching codec packs, or correcting jitter buffer settings depending on what the trace shows. I would document every change made to the conf files and gateway parameters and record short before and after test calls so you can hear the difference directly. All work would be done live with minimal disruption and I would only ask for a scheduled window if a reboot or firmware update turns out to be necessary. Happy to start with a quick diagnostic pass so we can confirm the source before applying any fixes.

Hi, I understand that you are experiencing GSM noise issues with your Asterisk-based PBX setup. With over 5 years of experience in Linux server management and VoIP systems, I am well-equipped to diagnose and resolve this problem efficiently. To address the GSM noise, I will: - Analyze the current configuration of your Asterisk PBX and Synway GSM gateway. - Identify potential sources of interference or misconfiguration that may be causing the noise. - Implement necessary adjustments to the audio codecs and RTP settings to enhance call quality. - Test the system thoroughly to ensure that the noise issue is resolved and that call clarity is optimized. - Provide documentation on the changes made for future reference. My goal is to restore the quality of your communications swiftly while ensuring the reliability of your PBX system. I am committed to delivering a solution that meets your needs and enhances your operational efficiency. Best regards, Shyam Prajapati

Hi, I have hands-on experience with Asterisk, SIP, PJSIP, RTP troubleshooting and Linux-based VoIP systems. I can help trace the source of the constant background hiss and isolate whether it is related to the GSM gateway, codec, gain, jitter buffer, RTP/media path, or Asterisk configuration. My approach would be to first check the Asterisk SIP/RTP configuration and call flow, then review the Synway gateway settings and perform controlled test calls. I can make configuration changes one at a time and compare before/after recordings to identify the actual improvement. I’m comfortable working through SSH and Asterisk CLI/logs and can troubleshoot the issue with minimal impact on production. I can start with diagnosis first and then recommend the required configuration changes based on the findings.

A constant hiss without echo or drops usually points to AGC or gain-staging on the Synway side rather than jitter-buffer settings - I'd want to pull the RTP capture from a live call first to see if the noise floor is present before or after the gateway's DSP stage. I've handled Linux server deployment and tuning work with nginx, PostgreSQL and systemd across VPS environments, so working through .conf changes and documenting before/after test calls is a familiar process. Can you give SSH access to the box plus a sample recording of the noise?

Hello, I can diagnose and fix the persistent background hiss in your Asterisk + Synway GSM setup. I have hands-on experience with Linux voice systems, GSM/SIM hardware and IVR/audio integration, including building my own IVR setup using a SIM7600, Waveshare hardware and BSNL SIM, with call handling and WAV/audio processing. My first diagnostics will be: • Record audio at different points to isolate GSM gateway vs RTP/Asterisk noise • Check SIP/RTP codec negotiation (G.711/G.729 etc.) • Inspect Synway input/output gain and GSM audio settings • Check Asterisk jitter buffer, RTP stats and transcoding • Review AGC/echo/noise processing settings • Check packet loss, jitter and network path • Compare GSM-side and SIP-side recordings I’ll make changes in small production-safe steps and provide before/after call recordings plus documentation of every setting changed. I expect this can be completed within 2–6 hours, with minimal interruption. Rajni Web Developer Linux • VoIP • SIP/RTP • GSM • SIM7600 • IVR • Server & Network Troubleshooting
