Development of a control package for a stepper motor driven Laser Cutter.
Software components required:
Laser Printer Driver
The printer driver allows the machine to be used directly with any Vector Drawing Graphics package such as Adobe Illustrator/Corel Draw/Solidworks etc. The printer driver identifies the different parts of the drawing based on line colour and then allows the user to adjust the associated settings. (Speed / Power / Pulse)
Upon pressing print the Printer driver converts the drawing & sends to laser control software.
Laser Control Software:
The laser control software acts as the interface between the user and the machine. Here you can see the file that has been sent from the printer driver to the laser cutter. You can jog the axis/X/Y/Z to check the position of the work etc.
You can check and adjust settings at this stage also.
Starting sends the appropriate commands to the laser control board – You can then Pause/Stop/Restart the job
Machine configuration will need to be setup and hidden in the laser control software.
Software developer is expected to provide some examples of relevant experience e.g.
CNC/Gcode/Printer driver architecture/3D printer/Smoothieware etc
At this stage control board/firmware is still flexible and may be dependent of programmer familiarity but is likely to be G-code based.
