My AlmaLinux 9 server no longer boots; systemd is corrupted and the screen stalls immediately after GRUB. I have already tried booting in recovery mode, but that is as far as I can safely go without risking the data that sits on the disks. What I need is a clean, surgical reinstall (or repair) of systemd itself while keeping every bit of user content, configuration, and database data untouched. Once systemd is healthy again, the machine must reach a normal multi-user target and all previously enabled services should start without manual intervention. Discrete deliverables • Reinstall/repair systemd on the existing AlmaLinux 9 installation using a live ISO, chroot, or comparable method. • Verify a full, clean boot to the usual default target. • Confirm that core services (sshd, network, etc.) start automatically and that file integrity for user, database, and configuration data is intact. • Provide a concise report of the steps taken so I can reproduce them in the future if needed. Acceptance criteria The job is complete when the server powers on normally, reaches the login prompt, and all original data and configs remain exactly as before. Tools at your discretion—dnf, rpm-ostree, rescue mode, or any approach you are comfortable with—as long as the outcome meets the criteria above.
