Help with unreal engine 4

I currently am messing around with unreal engine 4. I had a few test projects in version 19. I took some time off and it then went 3 versions till the newest 4.23 that I updated. It now crashes every time I try to bring in any assets. It also takes forever for the shaders to load when creating the scene/map. I tried lowering the quality it didn’t help. It made everything “flicker” when I built the lighting with a simple plane (no assets added except bushes). It’s for a demo game idea and I can’t seem to get it fixed.
