I have a quick project I need some work on. It is in ms access (db, forms, macros) – the database, forms, and coding.
I have a template table in an access DB, which contains about 20-30 columns. Access should allow the user to browse and select a txt file on their pc to import into the database into the correct fields.
The text file will generally have only 5 columns and those should be imported to the database. The import utility in ms access is retarded and thus a more advanced one is needed where you read a line from the text file and then you insert into the database.
Before importing the text file into the access db, the user should be allowed on the same form to add values for other fields which are not in the text file.
Here is an example:
The table contains the following columns : title, UPC, description, price, shipping, insurance, handling…
The text file contains the following: UPC, price, description, shipping.
I should be able to open the db then goto forms, open up a form where I can browse and select the text file, then on the same form I have the rest of the columns that are not in the text file to edit such as in our example insurance and handling.
I should be able to set those to let's say 2 and 1, and then click a button where a macro or module reads from the text file UPC, price, description, and shipping, puts them in variables and then does an insert UPC, price, description, shipping, handling and insurance. Handling and insurance will be the same for all inserted objects.
The estimated delivery time for this project should not be more that 2 days.
