My HPE SimpliVity cluster rebooted and every datastore has come back in a read-only state. I can browse all files, yet vCenter and the rest of my VMs refuse to power on because nothing new can be written. vSphere logs hint there are NFS timeout errors. The hosts run VMware ESXi, but I’m unsure of the exact SimpliVity software version. I have already tried the obvious quick checks and reboots, however the situation remains unchanged. I do not have access to vcenter which does not start. OVC machines are running, but I am unable to login using console. I do not know root password, and any other user I enter fires up a process to create a new user that fails when we reach a phase that asks for a password to copy files for /etc/skel (or similiar). What I need is remote, real-time assistance: connect to my PC, diagnose why the datastores are locked read-only, return them to read/write, and confirm that vCenter plus the affected VMs boot normally again. If you’re comfortable with SimpliVity CLI, OVC troubleshooting, and VMware storage timeouts, this should be right up your alley.
