Zandvoort is a beachresort near Amsterdam in The Netherlands. For people living in the nearby capitol Amsterdam, the beach at Zandvoort offers a nice place for daytrips during the somewhat hotter summerdays. Besides that Zandvoort is especially popular with Germans who tend to visit Zandvoort for complete weekends and even whole vacations. They are usually not only interested in the beach but also in the interesting cities nearby, like the historic cities of Haarlem and the capitol of Amsterdam. Both have a wide variety of musea, historic buildings and not to forget the best shopping centers of The Netherlands. Find some more information on Zandvoort and surroudings on http://www.vvvzandvoort.nl.
Our site at [url removed, login to view] was in need of a thorough renovation which had to result in an attractive look and feel. Where the present website is webcam-only, the new website had to become a broad touristic portal with lots of Zandvoort information. For that a new design was created.
A designer already made a template which was adapted to Wordpress but unfinished in the past. It can partly be found on [url removed, login to view] and partly on [url removed, login to view]
The present wavy design can for a good basis for the final design I think. This design needs to represent all elements of the beachresort which Zandvoort is, so a beachresort. Also the design should be adaptive/responsive.
STEP 1: THE DESIGN
The design developed so far can be seen at the reference sites mentioned above, its the wavy thing design. Basically there are two designs: one for the homepage and a second design that is used for all content pages. Basically the design should be like the one used at [url removed, login to view] or at [url removed, login to view], so a floating content area above a photobackground. All requirements are compulsory unless the use of an adaptive design makes this impossible.
Right now the waves stop at the left and right side. It would however be nice it they could be designed in such a way that they stretch screenwide width the screenresolution of the user. Each page in the content area starts with a random picture behind the waves. This has also be done in a bad exampledesign attached called 1.jpg. The main thing thus is to understand: begin with a header picture and the waves over it and below that the real content starts.
So the design of the reference site is basically OK but I would like to add more of a web 2.0 style to it. I think for that the blue block at the bottom should be deleted or made less wide. Some examples which give a general indication of what I see as Web 2.0 are:
- The biggest example that we like: [url removed, login to view]
- The site: [url removed, login to view]
We must be able to use the design on the warp-framework from YOOThemes. As a reference this can be downloaded for free at [url removed, login to view] For the framwork to work you will need one of the many YOOThemes available. Once choosen and installed one, it can be adapted to the design needed. All those themes are a paid service, but dont worry I have them all for you except the newest ones.
The PSD of the designs metioned above is available.
