WordPress Blog design, clean up/change existing layout

This project is to work on my personal site, jonathancoffman dot com.
I'm happy with the general layout, but I feel like the colors, logo, and general CSS is confusing and not very clean.
What I'm looking for:
-Make the content POP off the page, right now all the text sort of runs together
-Clean up the colors, red isn't the most friendly of colors, I'm open to suggestions but I'm looking for something softer.
-Header image, I'd like this to better reflect what I do and what I'm about.
-Some of the text sizes ought to be worked on and enhanced.
I think that's about it, the current design is based on the [url removed, login to view], so it's well commented and formatted.
