The site is to be an amalgamation of sites such as [url removed, login to view], [url removed, login to view], [url removed, login to view] and myyearbook.com. A social networking based site providing all services for free and making money through the use of advertising. Each visitor to the site will have the ability to create a free profile. Each profile will have a list of 10 – 15 themes, including background image and fonts to choose from to make them more individual. Users will also be able to add photo albums and photos to their profile. They will then be able to search through the profiles of other members using detailed criteria to find people with matching interests. They will be able to send messages to other users and add them to their own profile as ‘a buddy’. Each user will be able to choose pictures that the rest of the community can rate out of ten, site users will then be able to search through the profiles on criteria such as ‘the 50 most attractive people in Manchester’. Another key feature of the site will be to have an events diary, users will be able to view this area and see events that are happening in their own town – they can then click to say they will be attending an event – this will then show up in their profile and people searching the sites profiles can search for a particular event and see who will be attending. After an event has happened, photographs from that event will be available online and any user will be able add them to their own albums.

Once the profile is created a user will be able to change any of these details at any time by logging into the site. The users will be able to upload photographs to their profile area – they will have the ability to create unlimited photo albums and place as many photographs as they want within each of these albums. When a photograph is uploaded it will be automatically re-sized by the server to create a smaller thumbnail version of the picture – The larger version will be shown if a user clicks on one of the thumbnails to view it in more detail.
The background images and fonts on the site will be customisable allowing for different personal themes for the website.
A user will be able to click on the browse profile button and be presented with a large variety of searching options to find other people. Some examples of these options will be :
• Events they are attending

When they submit the search page they will be presented with pages of results – they will be able to click on each result and visit that person’s profile.
When viewing someone else’s profile, you will be able to click a ‘Make this person my buddy’ icon and their profile photograph will appear in your list of friends in your own profile. You will also be able to remove any person from being a buddy via the profile administration page.
Users will be able to send each other public and private messages – The most recent public messages will be viewable by all in the recipient’s profile. Each user will have a messages section where they can review all the messages they have been sent and reply to any. All private messages will only appear in the user’s private messages section. Users will be able to delete any public or private messages at any time and switch the status of a message from public to private.
Hot or Not Style Section
Users will be able to select photographs from either their personal profile photo or within their albums and these pictures will be able to be rated by other users. This can be done in one of two ways – firstly when on someone’s profile, if they have enabled voting for their photograph. Secondly through the dedicated section on the site which just shows one random photograph at a time and invites users to vote on it – once the photograph has been voted on, another one appears and the average result for the last photograph is displayed.
Users will be able to search the photographs under various criteria e.g. 50 highest rated, 50 lowest rated.
Admins will be able to place photographs in this section without them having to be on a profile.
There will be an events management system that allows admins to enter events for specific areas of the country, venues and dates. Each event will have a name, description, promotional photograph, drinks offers, over/under 18’s… Users will be able to browse through these events and click to say that they will be attending one. This event will then show up in their profile – other users will be able to search for people by what event they will be attending in the future or an event they have previously attended. When an event is completed, the admins will be able to upload photographs for that event and these will be displayed in a photo album. Users will be able to click on a photograph and add it to their own albums.
Through a password protected administration section, admins will be able to view the profiles of all users signed up to the website – they will be able to remove unsuitable photographs and change any member’s details.
The admins will also be able to send an e-mail out to everyone who has signed up for a profile on the site e.g. to tell them about a new feature.
All the e-mail addresses on the website will be able to be exported as a list.
Tell a friend
Users will be prompted to enter their friends e-mail addresses both when they are registering for their profile and via a menu link on every page of the site – this hopefully will help grow the site membership quickly.
There will be a content managed newsletter section allowing the admins to send out a site newsletter to everyone registered for the site aswell as e-mail addresses entered in the ‘tell-a-friend’ sections.
Search Engine Optimisation
All site pages will come fully search engine optimised including both the way the pages are coded and the text used within those pages. The site will also contain a links page which will have a big effect on search engine placement if used correctly.
The site will need to be hosted on unix servers and will be designed using php as the scripting language and MySQL as the database. These options are chosen due to their speed of execution, stability and scalability. The limit to the number of users your site can handle will only be restricted by the hardware capabilities of your server. For Example [url removed, login to view] is currently running on a mysql database.
Further features like music/personal videos to be added similiar to myyearbook.
