My wife and I sell on ebay as a hobby. Any money we make is used to buy more stuff. Ultimately the money will go towards fixing our house which sunk (literally) five years ago.
We've been keeping track of inventory, auctions, and sales in an excel spreadsheet that was created in 1995. Each inventory item uses twenty five columns, and we have five individual sheets that we move each item across as necessary (active, not sold, sold, clearing, done). This really should be done with a database. We have another tab in the spreadsheet ("bead prices") that tracks the beads - what, where, when, price per, and so on, using fourteen columns. In this, we (try) to keep track of items that are sold and what they're sold for, and I set it up to indicate how many are remaining.
I have been told that for those people who understand Access, this is a relatively simple thing to do. But I've tried. Access and I just don't get along. I've gone through two books and an interactive Professor Teaches Access course. I've tried, repeatedly, to build the dbase, but could never get it to where we want it to be.
I'm the go-to guy for everything computer: software, hardware, internet. I build my own pc's, and taught myself html, blah blah blah. That said, it's even more frustrating that I cannot get a handle on the dbase.
It's been about a year and a half since my last attempt. I kept a list of queries that we wanted to be able to do...
track all items, including multiple items
be able to distinguish the current status of an item (unsold, sold, completed, waiting for payment)
be able to handle quantity of the same item, but with different id/auction numbers, sold to different people
...and what reports we'd want
indicate what is currently on ebay
what has sold
what was listed but didn't sell
total up quantity values of beads (initial qty, qty sold, qty remaining)
listing items that didn't sell with dates so we know when it's time to relist
notification when an item sells if there are duplicates remaining
totalling up dollar amounts (shipping, profit, multiple fees combined and separate)
I have uploaded my last mdb file, last updated Oct 06, with very little data to show what I've done and hopefully what I'd like to do.
Ultimately I want a database that does what I want/need it to do, whether you continue with what I've done or start from scratch.
Email/PM me with any questions.
